New user Posts: 4 (81.154.100.240) | "I recently bought a cruising boat version of the Cygnus 25 called Tarka. She was built by the yard in 2004, has a large deck saloon a teak laid cockpit, sleeps two and a 50 hp Beta engine. There is a picture of her being built on the yard web site. I am interested to know whether she was a one off, or whether a number of them were built. She is a great boat, much admired." Edward.

New user Posts: 3 (86.144.69.149) | Tarka is a Cygnus 25 originally the Treeve 25 designed by Denis Swire of Porthleven Shipyard along the lines of a traditional Porthleven fishing boat, these boats had to handle rough water and be shallow enough to dry out in the harbour.. Niether company no longer exists, Denis is retired and living in Falmouth. The moulded superstructure for Tarka was designed to fulfill the role of either workboat or pleasure boat.Cygnus Marine built Tarka for a Gentleman from Dartmouth and it was exhibited at the Southampton Boatshow. Several similar boats were built the majority of tem as part-complete, either for owners to finish or local yards. hope this helps regards

New user Posts: 3 (84.252.254.209) | I was interested in your new boat Tarka, as I am having the same DS25 hull built for leisure too. I purchased the hull from Cygnus in 2007, probably the last DS25 to come out of the yard. It is a third of the way through build & shall be moored in South Devon. Any feedback on what you have found with Tarka appreciated! The engine will be a Beta 55hp.

New user Posts: 4 (80.41.73.231) | It is difficult to answer this question because I am not sure whether you are building a cruising boat with berths, WC, galley etc like Tarka or just an open fishing boat. If the former do you have a copy of all the drawings used for Tarka? Because, as you will appreciate, she is a shallow draft boat and therefore with our substantial cabin tends to roll. This is not a problem and we very quickly felt very confident in her movements in our wind against a strong tide Solent sea but I would think about this if your fitting radars etc to keep the weight down. We are thrilled with Tarka and she has been much admired. You would be very welcome to come and have a look at her here in Lymington. She is in the water apart from two weeks at the end of February.

New user Posts: 3 (79.121.216.169) | Edward Thank you for your reply & kind offer to see the boat. The build is bespoke to my design, which is for leisure & angling. The wheel house will not be a full one as Tarka's, being offset & located nearer midships & indeed I am keeping as much weight as low as possible in the boat. I may have the original plans for your boat, but they are with the boat builder, but next time I go up there, I shall fetch them back & make a copy & can post them to you if you like. Cygnus sent me most of the DS 25 configurations for information & I'm sure one is for the full wheelhouse version. Has the Beta been reliable? I have seen photos of Tarka on various boats for sale sites & she looks a lovely boat.

New user Posts: 4 (80.41.73.231) | Thank you for your reply, I do have the full drawings for Tarka. Unbelievably although she was four and a half years old when we bought her, the engine had only 18 hours of running. Due to other commitments it is still only seventy with no problems at all. We have averaged just over three litres an hour usually running at just under 2000 revs. The local Beta servicing engineer here in Lymington was very complimentary about them and the Cygnus installation, which is encouraging. She is certainly a lovely boat and we are very lucky to have her. Edward

New user Posts: 3 (84.252.254.209) | Thanks for your further information. I am expecting the Beta to be totally reliable from previous form. You sound like me, with too many committments to put in the desired boating hours! I shall put a photo of the build when completed on the site & shall let you know how she performs. James.
