Typhoon 33 (10.0m) 'Polaris'
Shown in the photographs is the latest Typhoon 33 (10.0m) ' Polaris ' emerging out of Britannia Yard, Penryn. Built for Leigh Mowat of The Orkney Islands
Leigh had a Cyclone 30 built at Cygnus in 2002 called 'Faith Hope', she was powered by a 6BTA Cummins and laid out the same as his new boat.Leigh has been so sucessful with his Cyclone 30 that he just wanted the same recipe but larger. The Typoon encompasses all the atributes of the Cyclone in regard to impeccable seakeeping, handling and that huge 4.0m wide flush deck.
Polaris is powered by a Diawoo L086TIL with a ZF 301A gearbox driving B.T. Propellers 50mm.sterngear which are positioned aft under the main deck
The pot hauling arrangement was going to be a Cygnus gunwale roller and landing table, but Leigh decided to revert to what he had found most efficent for him on the Cyclone, which was a conventional davit arm, half open block and Spencer Carter 2000lb. slave hauler.
The hauler is arranged to enable the back ropes to be shot into the centrally positioned fish hold which extends from amidships under the main deck to the forecabin and under the wheelhose. Shooting is via a portside transom gate and deflector boards.
The wheelhouse is fitted with a galley/sink unit, double crew bench seat, helm chair and large full wdth console for nav. gear. The all round black anodised tough'en glass windows give superb all round visibility. Down below in the forecabin is a generous crew space with two berths.
Polaris was delivered to Kirkwall by road where final equipment and gear will be fitted prior to launch and crabbing around the Islands.
