How to plan a longer-term future for sustainable fisheries will be discussed next week at UHI, the prospective University of the Highlands and Islands, by a leading European policy adviser.

YOUNG'S Seafood  has launched a new range of premium fish dishes intended to start the biggest category shake-up of the year. Called Young’s Fishmonger’s Choice  the new range is designed to overhaul existing perceptions of frozen fish as well as presenting strong competition to the chilled equivalents already available on the market.

WITH new fishing season already a week old, Iceland still has almost  20 per cent of its allowable uptake for haddock still uncaught. The haddock quota for the current fishing year is 51,000 metric tons, of which 41,000 tons had been taken up to the end of August.

GENETICALLY  modified salmon could be appearing on supermarket shelves and restaurant menus in the United States within the next two years.

Scotland’s mackerel fishermen have joined their fishing colleagues in other EU member states by declaring a boycott of tomorrow’s (7 September) international fisheries meeting in the Faroe Islands because of the current dispute with Iceland and the Faroes over their decision to unilaterally increase mackerel quotas.

The fish, called AquAdvantage salmon, could be sold in American within two to three years, raising fears among environmental and food-safety campaigners.
